Revolver aims to defy reviews

After a London premiere that left fans disappointed, Guy Ritchie will be hoping that his new film, Revolver, gets a better reception from cinemagoers when it opens today across the UK.

Revolver stars Jason Statham, who has appeared in previous Ritchie movies such as Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

He performs alongside Goodfellas star Ray Liotta, who has also featured in Hannibal, Blow and Heartbreakers, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver.

Andre Benjamin, also known as Andre 3000, is part of the cast, having recently appeared in Be Cool, with John Travolta, Vince Vaughn and Uma Thurman.

Revolver has received plenty of criticism in the press. Time Out calls it "a humourless, leaden and incoherent car-crash of a movie", while The Guardian claims "after Revolver, Swept Away now looks like Citizen Kane".

Ritchie responded to attacks on the film, saying: "I think it was inevitable, the concept of the film is tricky and that's part of the reason I was attracted to it in the first place."
