Goal! to please film and footy fans alike

Danny Cannon will be hoping to score a hit with his new film Goal! which opens at UK cinemas from today.

Cannon's biggest projects as a director include I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and Judge Dredd.

Now he has turned his attention to the world of football, and a film that has got everyone talking, not least due to the appearances of stars such as Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Alan Shearer.

In terms of acting stars, the film's lead character Santiago is played by the relatively inexperienced Kuno Becker.

Santiago lives in Los Angeles and dreams about a career playing professional football. Just when he thinks his dream will never come to fruition, a strange twist in events sees him trialling at Newcastle United.

Becker is joined by Alessandro Nivola, who has featured in Face/Off, Jurassic Park III and Best Laid Plans, Sean Pertwee who has appeared in Dog Soldiers and The 51st State, and Rogue Trader actress Anna Friel.
