Johnny Depp 'religiously' avoids watching his own films

Johnny Depp has admitted that he hardly ever sits down to watch himself on screen, saying that he "almost religiously" avoids seeing his own movies.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row programme, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor said that his own children have seen more of his films than he has.

"I like to portray a character, inhabit a character and build character, but I don't want to watch the end result necessarily, because it becomes about money then and I'd rather not think about that," he said.

Depp even said he has not set eyes on his latest film Public Enemies, which hit UK cinemas yesterday (July 1st).

But with five films currently in the pipeline, the actor is going to have difficulty avoiding the sight of his own face on screen in the future.

His next feature due for release in 2010 is The Rum Diary, which co-stars The Dark Knight's Aaron Eckhart and Amber Heard and follows a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean.
