Childhood charm of Nanny McPhee

The mysterious and magical Nanny McPhee opens at UK cinemas today, showcasing some of the UK's finest stars.

Nanny McPhee is directed by Kirk Jones, whose only other directorial experience came with the quaint comedy Waking Ned.

Leading actress Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay for Nanny McPhee, the second time she has done so after penning the script for Sense And Sensibility a decade ago, in which she starred with Hugh Grant, Tom Wilkinson and Kate Winslet.

Thompson's most recent roles came in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and Love Actually, in which Bridget Jones actor Colin Firth also featured.

The illustrious pair are joined by Kelly Macdonald, who made her name in Trainspotting, and has since appeared in Gosford Park, Finding Neverland and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

Thompson plays the role of Nanny McPhee, who changes the lives of Firth's character, Cedric Brown, and his seven unruly children.
