Costner to show his dark side

3 stars out of 5.0
Kevin Costner has signed up for a new film in which he will play the role of a serial killer.

The actor, who is normally associated with good guy roles, as demonstrated by films such as Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, The Bodyguard and Tin Cup, will star in the thriller Mr Brooks.

The film will be written and directed by Bruce A Evans, who has previously penned the screenplays for Tim Allen's Jungle 2 Jungle and Stand By Me, which starred River Phoenix.

Evans' only other effort at directing came more than a decade ago with Kuffs, which featured Christian Slater and Milla Jovovich.

Costner's change in image has also linked him more strongly to the role of JR Ewing in the film adaptation of TV hit Dallas.

Yet even when Costner found himself in the role of an escaped prisoner in A Perfect World, he still managed to come away as the hero of the film.
