Saw II tops US Halloween box office

The horror sequel Saw II has hit the top of the US box office chart beating fellow sequel Legend of Zorro.

Saw II follows on from last year's surprise horror smash Saw and stars Donnie Wahlberg, who also featured in The Sixth Sense, on the trail of the serial killer as a group of people are trapped in a booby trapped bomb shelter.

Behind the Legend Of Zorro, which reunites Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones, is Meryl Streep's romantic comedy Prime.

In Prime the Oscar winning star of The Hours, The Manchurian Candidate and Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events, stars alongside Pulp Fiction's Uma Thurman.

Prime tells the tale of a New York career woman falling in love with a painter, her psychoanalyst's son.

The fourth most popular film was Dreamer, starring Kurt Russell, of Tombstone and Stargate, with the singer turned actor Kris Kristofferson who has made his name on the silver screen in Blade and Planet Of The Apes.

The horseracing drama Dreamer, based on a true story, details how a trainer, Russell, and his daughter Dakota Fanning, star of War Of The Worlds, bring a horse back to health to enter it in the prestigious Breeders' Cup.

Fifth place in the chart was taken by Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit.
