Tribute to Gone With The Wind star

Olivia De Havilland, star of Gone With The Wind, is to be honoured with an Academy Tribute.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body that hands out the Oscars, is to honour De Havilland, now 89 years old, with a special evening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre including clips from her best performances and discussion with colleagues from throughout her career.

Her most famous role was in Gone With The Wind, alongside Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, but she won her two Oscars for To Each His Own and The Heiress, directed by William Wyler, who also made Ben Hur, Roman Holiday and The Children's Hour.

During the 1930s she rose to fame alongside Errol Flynn in Captain Blood and the pairing continued in seven more films including The Charge Of The Light Brigade, The Adventures Of Robin Hood and The Private Lives Of Elizabeth And Essex, which also starred Bette Davis.

De Havilland continued acting into the 1970s appearing in the films The Adventurers, Pope Joan and The Swarm, alongside Henry Fonda and Michael Caine.
