Banderas to go behind the camera

The Mask Of Zorro star Antonio Banderas is to return to his homeland Spain to direct a movie.

After his directorial debut with Crazy In Alabama the Spaniard, who made his name in the US starring in Philadelphia, Assassins and The Spy Kids films, has waited seven years to step back behind the camera.

Banderas is to direct El Camino De Los Ingleses (The Road Of The English), which is set in the late 1970s and is a coming of age story based on a book by the Spanish writer Antonio Soler.

The film is set in Banderas' hometown Malaga and London and will star Alberto Amarillo, Maria Ruiz and Juan Diego.

Future plans for the star of Evita and Femme Fatale include giving the voice to Puss in Shrek 3 and the cat's very own spin off film Puss In Boots.

The film El Camino De Los Ingleses is being made by Banderas' very own production company and a deal has been stuck so it should be the first of many.
