Hopkins to get golden lifetime honour

Sir Anthony Hopkins is to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes.

The Cecil B DeMille Award recognises outstanding contribution to the entertainment field, and the Welsh star of The Elephant Man and Howards End will be given the honour at the ceremony on January 16th.

Hopkins has produced a wide range of performances in films such as Titus, Amistad, Nixon, Shadowlands and The Remains Of The Day.

However, he is most widely known for his portrayal of the serial killer Dr Hannibal Lector in The Silence Of The Lambs and in the sequel and prequel Hannibal and Red Dragon.

For fans of Thomas Harris' mad physiatrist, his story has not finished as Hopkins is now working on Young Hannibal: Behind The Mask, which tells the tale of the teenage Lector, although only his voice with feature in the film.

Previous winners of the Cecil B DeMille Award have included Al Pacino, Michael Douglas and Robin Williams.
