Bowie goes back to the big screen

5 stars out of 5.0
Singer David Bowie is to return to acting to star in Christopher Nolan's new movie The Prestige.

The singer will star alongside Michael Caine, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in the drama set in late 19th century London.

Bowie will play an inventor who is asked to help to competing magicians, played by Bale (Velvet Goldmine, American Psycho) and Jackman (Swordfish, Van Helsing), to make the ultimate magic trick.

This is Nolan's first venture into period dramas after he made his name directing the intelligent action films Memento and Insomnia and the latest Batman movie, also starring Bale and Caine, Batman Begins.

Bowie's film career includes The Man Who Fell To Earth, The Hunger, Labyrinth and David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

Bowie first sparked off a friendship with Nolan when he was sent the script for Memento, which starred Guy Pierce and Carrie-Anne Moss, and liked it so much he provided the low budget film with one of his songs.
