Critics' Choice Awards nominees named

The nominees for the Critics Choice Awards have been named with Brokeback Mountain dominating the list.

Directed by Ang Lee (Sense And Sensibility, The Wedding Banquet, Hulk), the film tells the story of the gay relationship between two cowboys, played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.

Brokeback Mountain has eight nominations, including for Best Picture, Best Writer, and Best Director while Ledger and Gyllenhaal were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

The Critics' Choice Awards are seen as a good indication to whom might pick up the Oscars so the ceremony on January 9th will be eagerly watched.

Crash, directed by Paul Haggis and starring Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon and Sandra Bullock, picked up six nominations while Ron Howard's Cinderella Man, Capote and Walk The Line all received four.

In the best director category alongside Lee is Haggis, Howard, Peter Jackson (for King Kong), Steven Spielberg (for Munich) and George Clooney for his film Good Night, And Good Luck.
