Farrell and Johansson flick called off

The proposed historical drama Borgia starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Farrell has been called off.

It was director Neil Jordan's second attempt to get the project off the ground.

Four years ago Ewan McGregor and Christina Ricci were lined up to star in the film but the necessary budget could not be raised.

The Interview With The Vampire and The Crying Game director's film has suffered the same fate again as he felt the proposed budget was not enough to do the film justice.

He will now move on to direct a thriller entitled The Brave One.

It will star Jodie Foster (Panic Room, Little Man Tate) and Terrence Howard (Four Brothers, Get Rich Or Die Tryin') in a tale of a woman's need for revenge following a brutal attack.

However, it is unlikely that Jordan will give up on the project entirely and Borgia could soon appear in a new guise in the coming years.
