Couple's Retreat hikes to the top of U.S. box-office
Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau have overcome an onslaught of poor reviews for Couple's Retreat after the comedy debuted at the top spot of the U.S. box office at the weekend (09-11Oct09). The film, about four couples who seek relationship counselling at an island therapy resort, was panned by critics - who called the movie "offensive" and "tedious". Meanwhile, Woody Harrelson's horror comedy Zombieland was knocked to second place with £10 million in its second week. Family favourite Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed at number three with £8 million in earnings, rounding its four-week total to £64.2 million. Rounding out the top five were the Toy Story 3-D double feature at number four and Paranormal Activity in fifth, earning £5.1 million and £4.7 million respectively.
