Corpse Bride leaves Wallace And Gromit for dead

Despite winning an Oscar on Sunday, it seems Nick Park couldn't convince judges at the British Animation Awards to honour Wallace And Gromit with the title of best feature film.

Aardman's latest feature film Curse Of The Were-Rabbit was pipped to the post by Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. The stop-motion animation, set in the 19th century, follows Vincent Van Dort as he is whisked to the underworld to marry a mysterious woman who died on her wedding day.

The film is voiced by a long list of Hollywood names, including Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Christopher Lee, Albert Finney and Emily Watson.

The British Animation Awards also recognised Channel 4's Bromwell High – a late-night TV cartoon about three misbehaving girls at an East London comprehensive school – for best comedy of the year.

Rabbit, an eight minute long animation made from '50s educational stickers, picked up best short film and an award for most cutting edge film.

Innovative pop group Gorillaz received best animated music video for Feel Good Inc's promo. The band has long collaborated with animators, with its members hiding behind cartoon caricatures in their videos.
