Extras scenes planned for Baftas

Never one to rest on his laurels, comedy guru Ricky Gervais has added to the excitement surrounding this weekend's Bafta Television Awards by revealing he plans to film a scene for his series of Extras during the ceremony.

The Office creator will be putting a temporary hold on gong proceedings to assume his Extras persona of Andy, a failed actor, and no doubt add to the hilarity of the night.

His co-star Ashley Jensen, who plays airhead Maggie in Extras, will also be present during the scene.

Commenting on the plan, Gervais explained: "Everyone else is going on a freebie but I'm working that night."

He added: "We've set a new episode of Extras at the Baftas so Ashley and me are going to be filming at the awards. I've already won six Baftas so that's enough.

"If Extras wins it's a bonus but if not we will get a lot of stuff in the can. I've got a lot of work to do that night."
