Jackson to remake classic war film?

Lord Of The Rings and King Kong director Peter Jackson is reported to be re-making the classic 1954 World War II movie The Dambusters, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Reports had suggested that Jackson would have a $100 million dollar budget to retell the story of Barnes Wallis' bouncing bomb and the daring low level raid on three dams in the Ruhr valley in Germany.

The highly acclaimed original made in 1954 starred Michael Redgrave as Wallis and Richard Todd as Wing Commander Guy Gibson.

However, before film audiences prepare themselves to start humming the familiar refrain of the film it has emerged that a spokesperson has denied any involvement by Jackson in a Dambusters remake.

At the moment Jackson is working on a screenplay of Alice Sebold's novel The Lovely Bones - in which a fourteen-year-old girl recounts the events leading up to her death from beyond the grave - and the only other project he has in the pipeline is as an executive producer on the film version of the video game Halo.

Sir David Frost, who has denied any knowledge of Jackson's involvement, owns the film rights but Peter Jackson's much publicised interest in WWI and II planes will no doubt keep in the frame for many commentators.
