Depp goes from dastardly pirate to demon barber

4 stars out of 5.0
Johnny Depp looks set to continue his current penchant for period pieces (The Libertine, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Sleepy Hollow) in a new film based on the story of Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street.

Soon to appear at cinemas in the hotly anticipated sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Depp has reportedly signed up the pie making barber project with acclaimed director Tim Burton.

It's not the first time the two have worked on fantastical, and at times disturbing, projects.

Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and The Corpse Bride are all products of the cult actor and director working together.

Based on the musical version of the legend of Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim the film is being developed by DreamWorks for Paramount Pictures.
