Pettyfer wows London at Stormbreaker premiere

Hollywood heavyweights and up-and-coming stars attended the world premiere of Stormbreaker in London last night.

Fans turned up in their droves to see film stars such as Ewan McGregor, Mickey Rourke, Alicia Silverstone and Bill Nighy in Leicester Square.

However it was new British actor Alex Pettyfer who caused the biggest sensation.

The 16-year-old, who beat 500 rivals to land the role of teenage spy Alex Rider in the first film adaptation of Anthony Horowitz's series of bestselling children's books, gained cheers from hundreds of girls as he worked the red carpet.

Despite the attention it seems that Pettyfer is determined to remain level headed and enjoy being so famous.

"If you have a crowd like that and you were getting a buzz from it then it doesn't matter," he told the BBC.

As Rider, Pettyfer plays a 14-year-old who discovers that his late uncle was a spy who has prepared Rider for espionage by training him in scuba diving, martial arts and mountaineering.

He is then recruited by the special operations branch of MI6 and is pitted against an evil businessman in a mission which will save millions of lives.

Horowitz's books have caused one of the biggest sensations since J K Rowling's Harry Potter series. The six Alex Rider novels have so far sold more than ten million copies worldwide and have been translated into 28 languages.
