Gibson dons disguise for Apocalypto screening

4 stars out of 5.0
Mel Gibson has attended screenings of his new film Apocalypto, donning a disguise amid the furore over his recent arrest for drink driving.

The Oscar-winning director shunned the limelight at the advance preview in Oklahoma, preferring to keep a low profile.

Gibson has been under intense media scrutiny since his arrest, with the former Lethal Weapon star also making anti-Semitic remarks during the incident.

With Apocalypto, a film about the demise of the Mayan civilisation set in antiquity and featuring obscure dialects, Gibson hopes to reprise the success he enjoyed with the surprise smash hit The Passion Of The Christ.

Again using little-known language and tackling an ancient setting, Apocalypto depicts the final days of the Mayans in South America in what has been described as an action-adventure film.

The film was shown at Cameron University in Lawton and also the Riverwind Casino in Goldsby.
