Bond 'kicks the habit'

The new James Bond, Daniel Craig, will not be allowed to light up in his next adventure, as film bosses have cut all scenes of him smoking.

The scenes have been withdrawn amid fears that they may portray smoking as glamorous and encourage impressionable teenagers to take up the habit.

Contactmusic has quoted Mr Craig as saying: "I can blow someone's head off but I can't light a good cigar."

The latest instalment, entitled Casino Royale, is due for release in the UK on November 17th and will premiere three days earlier in London's Leicester Square.

This follows complaints by some parents over images of smoking in children's shows such as Tom And Jerry cartoons.

In response to complaints, children's TV channel Boomerang re-edited or excluded scenes involving images of smoking.

This followed an investigation by media watchdog Ofcom over concerns that vintage cartoons were no longer appropriate for a modern audience.
