Top spot for Scorsese's The Departed

After two weeks on release, Martin Scorsese's latest film The Departed has hit number one at the UK box office.

With the highest weekend screen average, ACNielsen EDI's chart put the thriller at the top spot ahead of The Devil Wears Prada, Open Season, Click and The History Boys.

The Departed stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson and is the first feature film from Scorsese since his Howard Hughes biopic, The Aviator, in 2004.

Fans of the director might also want to catch up on his back catalogue with Gangs of New York, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz.

Scorsese's directorial roster also features a number of collaborations with Robert De Niro, including Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Taxi Driver and mob classic Casino.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Scorsese has filmmaking trademarks which eagle-eyed fans can look out for, such as the use of slow-motion sequences and the introduction of the leading lady always wearing white clothes.
