The Queen, starring Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen, has secured six nominations including best British independent film and best director for Stephen Frears.

Helen Mirren is due to be given the award for Variety UK personality of the year at the event, which takes place on November 29th.

As the first feature-length film from Andrea Arnold, Red Road picked up five nominations. Set in Glasgow, it tells the story of Jackie, a security operator who embarks on a dangerous journey to confront a man from her past.

Volver, Hidden (Cache), The Beat My Heart Skipped, Hard Candy and Brick are all in the running for best foreign independent film.
