Cinema release for Shrek's feline friend

3 stars out of 5.0
Those who enjoy animated comedies might be excited to hear that Puss In Boots, the fearless feline from Shrek 2, is set to star in his own movie.

Voiced by Antonio Banderas, the character of Puss In Boots proved to be a loyal ally to Shrek, alongside Donkey and Princess Fiona.

And now it has been announced that the film could follow Shrek 4 into cinemas, although this may not be until 2010.

"Puss In Boots is a unique creative property that has the potential to be a valuable extension of the Shrek franchise," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive officer of DreamWorks Animation.

In the meantime, however, fans can look forward to the release of Shrek The Third, which is due to hit cinemas next summer. Mike Myers will return to voice the ogre, in addition to Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and John Cleese as King Harold.

There is set to be a number of new additions to the cast, including Justin Timberlake as Prince Artie and Eric Idle as Merlin.
