Oscar-nominated actress Kate Hudson is to star in a comedy entitled Bride Wars, about two friends that schedule their weddings for the same day.

According to Variety, the plot - which follows the characters when neither of them plan to back down and reschedule - is being scripted by June Raphael and Casey Wilson, although no shooting schedule has been arranged yet.

The actress was previously nominated in the best supporting actress category at the 2001 Oscars for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous.

Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, the movie followed a young journalist as he attempts to secure an interview with an up-and-coming rock band. Hudson's role - as a young groupie in love with the lead singer - was one of her first in a major film.

She recently appeared in the comedy You, Me and Dupree, which also starred Owen Wilson and Michael Douglas, while 2005 featured her in The Skeleton Key, a supernatural thriller.
