Everett applauds Firth for career success
The My Best Friend's Wedding star mocked his old pal Firth's portrayal of a gay businessman in the 2008 Abba-themed film, admitting he thought the star had committed "career suicide" by taking on the all-singing, all-dancing role.
But Firth has gone on to enjoy a stellar two years, picking up an Oscar nod in 2010 for A Single Man, and he's the favourite to walk away with the Best Actor Academy Award for The King's Speech at this year's (11) prizegiving.
Now Everett admits he was wrong - and he's ecstatic Firth is finally getting the parts he deserves.
Everett tells the Daily Telegraph, "People always assume actors loathe each other, but I have worked with Colin four times and have always known he is a great actor.
"What's so brilliant about Colin's career now is that he is finally being allowed to be a great actor. I'm at once thrilled for him and green with envy."
