Cronenberg and Mortensen reunite

3 stars out of 5.0
Viggo Mortensen and David Cronenberg are set to work together again this week as filming begins on a new thriller entitled Eastern Promises.

The pair recently collaborated on A History of Violence, a dark and tense drama featuring Mortensen as a seemingly happy family man whose violent past threatens to catch up with him.

Cronenberg directed the movie, which continued his tradition of gory and graphic visual effects as seen in films such as Naked Lunch, Videodrome and The Fly.

Although not usually in his own films, the cult director has played a number of cameo roles in films such as Jason X and Crash, while more recently featuring in two episodes of spy series Alias.

Eastern Promises, which is scheduled to start filming in London this week, features Mortensen as organised crime boss Nikolai and Naomi Watts as a nurse who gets inadvertently involved in a violent murder mystery.

The film is also set to star Vincent Cassel, Sinead Cusack and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
