Casino Royale knocks Borat off top spot

4 stars out of 5.0
Although Daniel Craig was a controversial choice as James Bond for many people, it appears that he is proving popular so far as Casino Royale hit number one at the UK box office this week.

According to ACNielsen EDI's chart, the newest instalment of the spy series overtook Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan to reach the top spot with a weekend screen average of £26,477.

No other new releases made it into the top ten for the weekend starting November 17th, although The Prestige, which has been in cinemas for two weeks, stayed in third place.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Scarlett Johansson, The Prestige tells the tale of rival magicians in turn of the century London. It beat Step Up and Saw III into fourth and fifth place respectively, while The Devil Wears Prada stayed inside the chart at number ten.

Meanwhile, Casino Royale narrowly missed out on the top spot in the US, where animated comedy Happy Feet reached number one.
