Brian De Palma to make Iraq documentary

4 stars out of 5.0
Brian De Palma is to use news footage, video blogs and court coverage to construct a documentary entitled Redacted.

The film will tell the story of five US soldiers stationed in Iraq who were accused of various crimes against an Iraqi family, Production Weekly reports.

Using a blend of real-life footage and documentary techniques, De Palma's project could share some aspects with his 1989 fictional film Casualties of War, which starred Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox as US soldiers serving in Vietnam.

However, the New Jersey-born director has made a varied range of movies during his career, including the seminal horror film Carrie and the legendary Scarface.

The gangster genre continues throughout his CV with The Untouchables and Carlito's Way, while he began the Mission: Impossible series with the first film starring Tom Cruise as special agent Ethan Hunt.

More recently, De Palma directed Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett in the noir-inspired movie The Black Dahlia.
