Secrets of The Mummy unearthed

The third instalment of The Mummy looks to be forthcoming, with a number of details regarding the plot recently unearthed.

After putting vengeful mummy Imhotep to rest in the first movie and re-killing his awakened body in The Mummy Returns, characters Rick and Evie may return for further adventures in the third film, which is as yet untitled.

Co-writer Alfred Gough, who also penned a number of episodes of Smallville and films such as Herbie Fully Loaded and Shanghai Noon, outlined the possible plot of the third movie.

"We figured out a really good family story with Rick and Evie - and Alex is now grown up," he said. Alex is, of course, Rick and Evie's son who first appeared in The Mummy Returns. "So it's really interesting," Gough added.

Rick and Evie were played in both movies by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the latter of which can be seen in upcoming film The Fountain.
