Rocky Balboa tops the box office

4 stars out of 5.0
UK cinema-goers appeared to like Rocky Balboa in the last week of January as it hit number one at the box office, bringing its total takings to over £6.6 million.

The boxing sequel was followed in second place by political thriller Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a South African mercenary and Jennifer Connelly as an investigative journalist, reports ACNielsen EDI.

Third, fourth and fifth places were taken by The Pursuit Of Happyness, Night at the Museum and The Last King Of Scotland, while Casino Royale spent its 11th week on release at number eight.

New entry Venus, staring Peter O'Toole, opened at number ten, with the actor nominated for best actor at the upcoming Oscars.

Other Oscar contenders could enter the chart in the next few weeks, with the recent release of Notes On A Scandal and Dreamgirls widely tipped to arrive in the top ten.
