Singer and Van Sant compete for MilkHarvey Milk, an openly gay city supervisor of San Francisco in the 1970s, has been the subject of screenplays mooted for a number of years by both directors, although neither has ever commenced production on the scripts. However, Van Sant is currently looking to begin work on an untitled screenplay based on the subject, while Singer is planning to start work on The Mayor of Castro Street which is likely to be given a final draft by Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects. Meanwhile, another film depicting the murder of a political figure was recently released in the UK. Bobby, which is soon to be out on DVD, stars an impressive ensemble cast including Laurence Fishburne, Sharon Stone and Martin Sheen, telling the story of the day of Robert F. Kennedy's death in 1968 Los Angeles.
