Tokyo hosts Spider-Man 3 premiere

4 stars out of 5.0
The Japanese city of Tokyo played host to the world premiere of Spider-Man 3 on Monday night, ahead of its forthcoming release in cinemas worldwide.

As the third instalment in the series, the film follows Peter Parker and his alter-ego in addition to new villains Venom and Sandman, who try where others have failed to exterminate the arachnid-infected superhero.

Tobey Maguire, who plays Spidey himself, attended the premiere, accompanied by co-star Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi.

While the trio have worked together on each film in the trilogy so far, a fourth chapter in the series is unconfirmed, although Dunst hinted that if it went ahead, it would need the whole cast back together.

"Audiences aren't stupid. [Spider-Man 4 would] be a big flop without me, Tobey or Sam," she told Entertainment Weekly, adding that a movie without the original actors and crew would be "disrespectful to the whole team".
