DVD rental roundup

4 stars out of 5.0
This week brings another fresh batch of new DVDs available for home viewing, including the adaptation of children's novel Eragon and a comedy drama starring Simon Pegg.

Eragon, which features Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich and Robert Carlyle, tells the story of a young boy who learns powers through his bond with a pet dragon named Saphira. Rated PG, the film could be an ideal treat for a family night in.

Meanwhile, comedy heist movie Big Nothing sees David Schwimmer in a post-Friends role, opposite Hot Fuzz star Simon Pegg and Alice Eve of last year's Starter for Ten. When the trio think up a blackmail scheme, things start to go wrong almost immediately and they must wriggle their way out of a number of sticky situations.

In addition, fans of the time-travelling television show Life On Mars can now enjoy the second series on DVD, featuring 400 minutes of 1970s police drama and starring John Simm as young detective Sam Tyler.
