New releases for home viewing

Unseasonably cool weather could provide the perfect opportunity to stay in with a few of the latest DVD releases, with a wide range to suit all tastes.

If Oscar-winning fare is preferred, Dreamgirls may be a safe bet. Based on a Broadway musical, it stars Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy, and tells the story of a 60s soul group who aim to hit the top of the pop charts.

However, family fun could come in the form of Charlotte's Web, in which a pig befriends a spider in an attempt to avoid becoming somebody's dinner.

Featuring a host of celebrities who voice the various farmyard animals, it also stars child actress Dakota Fanning.

Last but not least is action epic Apocalypto, the latest directorial effort from Mel Gibson.

It tells the tale of an ancient Mayan kingdom which faces decline and follows a young man who must flee to avoid becoming a human sacrifice.
