British actor Jim Broadbent is to join the cast of the eagerly-awaited fourth Indiana Jones movie, it has emerged.

Broadbent, who has appeared in a wide range of films such as Hot Fuzz, Moulin Rouge, Vanity Fair and Robots, is to star alongside Ray Winstone, Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett and Shia LaBeouf in the Steven Spielberg picture, currently titled Indiana Jones and the City of Gods.

The news broke on industry website BritFilms, where the actor said he would be doing "a good cameo" in the fourth Indy flick.

"Working with Mr Spielberg should be an experience," he said, before hinting as to what character he might play. "I'm going to Yale - I'm a professor."

Some of Broadbent's earlier work included a stint on Victoria Wood's 1985 comedy series and a few episodes of Only Fools and Horses.

However, he now mixes lower-budget UK films with Hollywood blockbusters and won an Oscar in 2001 for his role in Iris, a biopic also starring Judi Dench.
