Transformers given thumbs up

4 stars out of 5.0
Michael Bay's widely-anticipated Transformers remake looks set to smash cinema records when it is released this summer, after a number of American previews gave it the thumbs up.

According to Studio Briefing, the Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert said it is "goofy fun" and has "a lot of stuff that blows up real good", while Desson Thomson described it as a "wonderfully playful experience" in the Washington Post.

Many fans of the original series and toys are sure to be chomping at the bit to see Transformers, which follows the titanic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons.

Shia LaBeouf - previously seen in Constantine, Bobby and A Guide to Recognising Your Saints - takes centre stage in the movie, accompanied by Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and Jon Voight.

Tranformers is scheduled for release on July 27th across the UK, in what could be a bumper year for summer blockbusters.
