The Office and The Sopranos up for Emmys

4 stars out of 5.0
This year's nominations for the Emmy awards have been announced and a number of competitors have been shortlisted in multiple categories.

Recently-departed mob drama The Sopranos is up for outstanding drama series, with James Gandolfini - who plays mafia boss Tony Sporano - a potential recipient for outstanding lead actor in a drama series.

The US version of Ricky Gervais comedy The Office is competing for the award for outstanding comedy series, while Steve Carell is up for the outstanding lead actor in a comedy series gong.

Other nominations for this year's awards include medical drama House MD, which stars British actor Hugh Laurie, Ugly Betty and long-time favourite Lost, which recently came to the end of its third season.

Two of its stars - Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn - have both been placed in the best supporting actor category for their roles in the mysterious drama series. Emerson plays powerful leader Ben, while O'Quinn is the adventurous loner John Locke.
