Die Hard director to revamp Escape From New York

4 stars out of 5.0
The director of recent release Die Hard 4.0 is set to remake the classic action film Escape From New York, it has emerged.

Len Wiseman will revamp the 1981 movie, which saw an eye-patched Kurt Russell attempt to rescue the kidnapped US president from inside the maximum security prison that used to be Manhattan.

The central role is now to be played by Gerard Butler, who audiences recently saw in the epic 300.

And Wiseman should bring some style to the Escape From New York remake, having previously helmed Underworld and its sequel Underworld: Evolution.

Prior to his directorial debut, he worked in the art department for movies such as Godzilla, Men in Black and Independence Day.

Underworld starred British actress Kate Beckinsale - who is also Wiseman's wife.
