Keira Knightley film opens Venice festival

3 stars out of 5.0
The 64th Venice Film Festival opened in style yesterday as the stars of a forthcoming adaptation took to the red carpet.

Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave were all present to celebrate the debut screening of their new movie, Atonement, which is based on a novel by British author Ian McEwan.

The film tells the story of a young girl whose active imagination leads her to make an accusation which changes the lives of all involved. The director, Joe Wright, previously helmed Pride & Prejudice, starring Knightley as the stubborn Lizzie Bennet.

In addition, viewers may recognise James McAvoy from a number of recent critical and box office successes.

He recently played Tom Lefroy in Becoming Jane, after starring as 1980s student Brian Jackson in Starter for 10 and opposite Forest Whitaker in The Last King Of Scotland.

The festival runs until September 8th.
