Jesse Metcalfe signs up for Insanitarium

A new horror thriller set inside a psychiatric institute is to star Jesse Metcalfe of Desperate Housewives fame, in addition to Peter Stormare and Kiele Sanchez.

The film, entitled Insanitarium, tells the story of a young man (Metcalfe) who has to pretend he is crazy when his sister is involuntarily placed in a hospital, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

However, when the siblings are inside the institute, they find that not all is quite what it seems as the patients are the subjects of a ruthless doctor (Stormare) and are slowly turning into flesh-chomping murderers.

In addition to his role as Eva Longoria's illicit boyfriend in Desperate Housewives, Metcalfe also starred in last year's teen comedy John Tucker Must Die.

Kiele Sanchez may be recognisable to fans of the hit TV series Lost, following her role in season three as the mysterious Nikki Fernandez, while Peter Stormare recently starred in Prison Break.
