Jodie Foster film takes #1 at US box office

New movie The Brave One starring actress Jodie Foster has taken the top spot in the US box office chart.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the thriller has proved to be a clear viewer favourite over the pond, taking $14 million (£7 million) over the weekend.

The Brave One is a crime thriller starring Silence Of The Lambs star Jodie Foster as the fiancee of murdered Naveen Andrews who looks to take lethal vengeance on the perpetrators of the crime.

"The fact that Jodie Foster was in it brought in the women," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers told the Guardian.

Other films currently making the rounds in the US box office top ten are Dragon Wars starring Jason Behr and 3:10 To Yuma featuring Hollywood hunks Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

While 3:10 To Yuma was pushed into number two spot by Jodie Foster's latest offering, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the Bale-Crowe film will be a slow burner with fans.
