Brad Pitt 'to star in The Fighter'

He starred in Fight Club alongside Edward Norton and now it looks like Brad Pitt is set to take the lead in another brawl-based flick: The Fighter.

The Fighter tells the story of Irish-American boxer Mickey Ward - played by Mark Wahlberg - and his half-brother Dicky Eckland - Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt is taking on the character of Eckland after Matt Damon pulled out due to scheduling problems.

The film will see the partner of Angelina Jolie finally working with director Darren Aronofsky, with whom he was originally meant to work on ill-fated movie The Fountain, Reuters reports.

"Pitt pulled out of that movie during preproduction, effectively killing it until Aronofsky resurrected it in 2005 with Hugh Jackman at half the previous budget. Relations between the two soured for a while afterward," Reuters notes.

Brad Pitt and Matt Damon recently starred together in Ocean's 13, the successor to previous instalments Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12.
