Mulholland Drive tops scary scene chart

3 stars out of 5.0
An updated list of the 100 scariest movie scenes of all time has been compiled on the website Retrocrush and David Lynch's Mulholland Drive has topped the chart.

Terror masterpiece Carrie was placed second, with the film's final moments being singled out as some of the most frightening in film history.

Next up is The Shining, where tricycle rider Danny spends his time riding through the corridors of the creepy Overlook hotel and soon encounters some seemingly friendly twins.

The chest-bursting scene in Alien was named as the fourth scariest moment, in which John Hurt realises he probably should have avoided having noodles for dinner.

Others in the top 100 list include The Ring, Salem's Lot, Jaws and The Birds - which might all be perfect choices for a spooky Halloween movie night.

And for those who want something a bit gorier, the fourth instalment of the Saw series is currently on release in cinemas, so catching up on the first three could be a fun, if rather terrifying, way to spend this Halloween.
