Alien Vs Predator sequel goes "back to basics"

5 stars out of 5.0
The latest entry into the Alien Vs Predator (AVP) series will be closer to the original Alien movie than its effects-laden predecessor, according to the film's directors.

Speaking to USA Today Colin and Greg Strause, the two brothers behind Alien Vs Predator - Requiem, said that they hope to redress the damaging effect of a number of below-par sequels from both the Alien and Predator franchises.

In particular, they claim, there is a desire to bring the dark and brooding atmosphere of Ridley Scott's 1979 entry into the Alien series into the new AVP feature.

"That movie was scary. We want it more like the classic early Alien and Predator movies we grew up on," Colin said.

He added that the history of the franchise, combined with the affection with which all of the films are held by fans, was influencing their decision to make a film "just as serious and dark as the originals."

Greg added: "You're not going to see 50 digital creatures running around. We want to bring the franchise back to basics."

The original idea to pit the Alien against the Predator came from writers at Dark Horse Comics, who decided to bring two of science fictions deadliest creatures together for a series of graphic novels.
