Police Academy's Mahoney signs up for The Well

The man who starred in numerous 1980s classics such as Police Academy and Short Circuit has signed up for a new thriller entitled The Well.

Steve Guttenberg, who played cadet Mahoney in the Police Academy series and also found fame in Three Men And A Baby, will play the father of a missing boy in the new film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the plot centres on a couple going through a divorce who team up to find their son after he vanishes.

It could be a return to bigger movie projects for Steve, whose career slowed down somewhat after his initial success in the 80s.

Following appearances in Three Men And A Little Lady and Cocoon: The Return, he took roles in films such as PS Your Cat is Dead and a TV version of The Poseidon Adventure.

However, he is soon to be seen again in Major Movie Star, a comedy starring singer Jessica Simpson.
