American Gangster continues UK box office reign

3 stars out of 5.0
There was little change at the UK box office this week as Ridley Scott's New York epic American Gangster stayed at number one for the second week.

According to AC Nielsen, the weekend beginning November 23rd saw the film take another £1.82 million in receipts, putting it ahead of Beowulf once again.

Fantasy drama Stardust spent its sixth week on release at number three, followed by Rataouille and Good Luck Chuck, starring Jessica Alba.

Positions six, seven and eight were occupied by new entries - The Darjeeling Limited, August Rush and horror spectacular Shrooms.

The rest of the top ten was taken up by Elizabeth: The Golden Age and 30 days of Night, both of which have now spent four weeks in the chart.

Meanwhile, the run-up to new year could see the chart shaken up with festive entries such as Fred Claus, which stars Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti, and This Christmas, featuring Chris Brown and Regina King.
