X marks the Scot

4 stars out of 5.0
Excitement surrounding the forthcoming X-Files movie rose today with news that Scottish comedian Billy Connolly has joined the cast.

The film, which is neither a sequel nor a continuation of events in the first X-Files big-screen outing, will star Connolly in addition to the legendary David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who will reprise their roles as Mulder and Scully.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, absolutely no details regarding Connolly's role were revealed, although the magazine claimed that Xzibit and Amanda Peet had also joined the cast as FBI agents.

The film is due out in the US next July and has been co-written by the series' creator Chris Carter.

Meanwhile, those looking to catch up on the incredibly complex and - at times - intensely frightening TV show can curl up with a DVD boxset this winter.

The X-Files ran for nine seasons and also generated the spin-off show Millennium.
