LA film critics dish out awardsThe film is set for release next February and centres around the story of a turn-of-the-century prospector who becomes embroiled in corruption and greed. Amy Ryan took home the award for best supporting actress for her role in Gone Baby Gone, while Sarah Polley took the "new generation" prize for her directorial debut Away From Her. Forthcoming comedy drama The Savages won the prize for best screenplay, but the film is not due out in the UK until the end of January 2008. Meanwhile, Lafca gave its "career achievement" title to Sidney Lumet, whose latest effort Before The Devil Knows You're Dead is set for release on January 11th and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke among others. Lafca was founded in 1975.
