Director confirmed for Tekken movie

3 stars out of 5.0
A movie version of the widely-popular video game Tekken is to be directed by Dwight Little, it emerged last night.

Little, who has previously helmed Murder at 1600 and Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, will head up production on Tekken, Variety reported.

He has recently worked on episodes of the forensic science-themed TV show Bones and real-time drama 24.

The sci-fi film will tell the story of a rebel who takes on the Tekken Corporation "to seize freedom for his people", the director said.

He added that although it is essentially a "gladiator story", the computer game featured a complex enough plot on which a "martial arts spectacular" can be based.

Tekken was originally launched in 1994 and provided hours of game-play for arcade lovers.

Its release on the PlayStation the following year let players fight against each other using characters such as Nina Williams, King, Michelle Chang and Yoshimitsu.
