Movies to watch in 2008

This year could be a big one for the movie industry once again and Guardian writer Steve Rose has compiled a list of what to watch out for in the next 12 months.

First up is Cloverfield, the mysterious monster project from producer JJ Abrams. According to Rose, the action thriller looks like a cross between The Blair Witch Project, Godzilla, Lost and Friends. It is set for release in February.

Other potential blockbusters to look out for include The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton as the slightly-annoyed physicist and The Dark Knight, which stars Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.

Doug Liman's time-travel film Jumper could also be worth a watch, Rose suggested. It features Hayden Christensen and The OC alum Rachel Bilson.

Adaptations and hotly-anticipated flicks are on the cards for 2008, such as Johnny Depp as a murderous barber in Sweeney Todd and a corseted Scarlett Johansson in The Other Boleyn Girl.
